Hello,

As an educational instituition we have approx 130-150 applications. However, in a base image we would primarily include just MS Office 2007, Symantec A/V. All (ok most) of our applications are then virtualized (using VMWare ThinApp - Formerly Thinstall) and installable from our portal environment. This makes base image creation and management much simpler for us.

I would be happy to provide the list of the software we use if desired...From AutoCAD and Adobe products to smaller apps like Terraview and Simply Accounting :-)

We're using Office 2K7 with all the features, Visio, Project, some small java apps, av/as, ftp client, im client, etc. Our enterprise stuff is terminal server based.

Our faculty and student images are a bit more bloated. Along w/ the above we add:
Quickbooks
some custom textbook software (big image bloat, low cpu/memory use)
windows lockdown tools
steadily growing list of browser pluging (think Netflix)
classroom control software (SoftLink)

Kevin,

Adobe Acrobat Reader
Adobe Flash Player
Citrix ICA Client

We have a wide variety of healthcare apps that get loaded however many of those have become web based with nothing more than .NET or ActiveX controls.

Hope that helps a bit.

[Admin Note: This is an archived thread from the old Virtual Computer Forums.]

Hello All,

While creating a NxTop image today I realized I need a better mix of 'real-world' applications installed. I was in IT for a number of years in our older images we included Office, AV (w/ spyware plugin), and email client. What additional apps do you include on your global images? What type of apps do you include on a one-off basis?

Thanks,
Kevin Amorin
