Features which would make a difference:
- Ability to encrypt the hard drive
- Portability (hardware indpendent)
- Ability to get a user up and running (after a hard drive crash) in minimal time
- Ability to deploy duplicate systems to test software in a controlled environment

I will most appreciate the ability to wipe drives remotely if machines are lost and the ability to have point in time backups of drives if they fail. We don't do any user backups right now and we have a hard time training users (no matter how much we tell them) to store their files on servers.

Immediate needs are:
Hard drive encryption
Specifying usb port usage - eliminating jump drives
Recovery after hard drive crash
Remote laptop management (wiping stolen laptops, etc)

I would really like to be able to remotely "kill" a had drive if I am notied that it has been lost or stolen. Or - even better (or in additon) - if the device has not "phoned home" in a certain period of time (30, 60, 90 days) - I would like to have a policy that renders the device unusable until unlocked by a system administrator.

I'd like to see the typical features:
remote wipe
whole disk encryption using multiple keys (support tech, etc.)
central management
fast deployment for new users
fast recovery for crashed users
simple off-net use
multi-factor authentication
A customizable opening splash screen would be cool. Something with the school's logo and security warning. Maybe "If lost, return for a reward" sort of thing.

Now i have playing around with Windows 7 beta and i am very impressed. This is the Windows version i will recommend to all of our customers. Now what we need is Tier-1 hypervisor and management that support Windows 7.
Windows 7 support booting from VHD image (same as Hyper-V).

Here is my wish list:
- "Plugin" to SCCM (SMS) or Microsoft System Center Virtual Machine Manager
- Self provisioning for users (like PXE) from Webserver or DVD
Now is almost impossible to install OS and Apps when users are on the road. And using 3G network is cheap and fast (2 mb/s line 20 € / month unlimited) nationwide.
- Support for APP-V and Thinapp (user profiles)
- VHD format that we can use locally and in VDI (Hyper-V) or with Tier-2 hypervisors (VPC)
- Support for MS The Offline Virtual Machine Servicing Tool
