You present a compelling argument for desktop virtualization; and the car is an interesting choice for a give away too.

I remain disappointed that http://www.virtualcomputer.com was never announced who the winner of the Smartcar was, ostensibly some 4 months ago. It seems dishonest or sneaky at best and doesn’t endear me to the company. From the company perspective, to lose that which it gained from the promotion seems a poor business decision.

Hi Gary,
My apologies for not communicating a bit more about the conclusion of our Smart car promotion. We did draw a winner, a gentleman named Tony Cox, from the Baltimore area. Since accepting the prize of the car would actually involve out of pocket expenses for the winner for things like tax, registration, insurance, etc., we gave Tony the option of the car or a cash prize of $10,000.
After considering both options, Tony decided to go for the cash price, which we paid out to him some months back. We decided not to do a “photo opp” for the cash award, but we should have done a bit more to communicate the outcome. So, you criticism is fair, though I can assure you that nothing dishonest occurred.
Don’t hesitate to contact me (doug (dot) lane (at) virtualcomputer.com if you have any add’l concerns or if you would like me to take you through the drawing process in more detail.
Regards,
Doug Lane
