This one caught me by surprise: Australia has more than double the virtualization adoption rate than the world at large. According to Gartner (as referenced in CIO India), somewhere between 8% and 9% of medium and large business in Australia are using virtualization. The rest of the world is between 4% and 5%.
There’s no reason it should have surprised me — Australia is generally at the front of the IT curve — it’s just that I hadn’t given it altogether too much thought.
I need to try to track down a copy of the full report. I’m curious how “rest of the world” is defined and where other countries fit in the rankings.

This is a point I have been aware of for a reasonable amount of time , I think part of the reason is the reliance on channel partners who actually do have to offer support and assistance when the rest of the world are asleep! These partners are always looking for new technologies to take into the existing customer base and Virtualisation fitted that bill very early on. The culture in the APAC channel is forward thinking and problem solving real world issues , VMware spotted this a long time ago and built a great channel in Australia that is even now still growing exponentially. When I have been working “down under” the understanding and acceptance of Virtual technology has been very refreshing in all its guises organisations like Blue-Sky who are a value added Distributor across the whole of the continent prove these points many times over.
